The President of the OCH, Eugeni Rodríguez, announces the organization of an international meeting of Observatories against LGBTIphobia in Barcelona in May 2018
Geneva (Switzerland), Monday 23rd of October 2017. The President of the OCH, Eugeni Rodríguez, has met with the executive director of the International Association of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals, Bisexuals and Intersex (ILGA), Renato Sabbadini, to communicate the lack of sanctions in relation to the Law 11/2014.

Rodríguez has reiterated that “the absence of the launching of the sanctioning regime – which has already been drafted – is sending a false message to society: that LGBTIphobia can go unpunished in Catalonia”. Rodríguez has positively appreciated the meeting and the interest of ILGA executive director on the work of the Observatori. In that sense, he wanted to highlight that “the current itinerary that the OCH follows is to communicate all incidents to the General Directorate for Equality of the Catalan Government”, but “that office never informs about the proceeding or follow-up of the reported cases”. Hence, he has highlighted the recommendation from the Catalan Ombudsman, who said that “the Observatori should be an interested party in the sanctioning proceedings”.
Finally, the president of Observatori has announced that “the OCH is working on the organisation of an international meeting of Observatories against LGBTI-phobia for next May in Barcelona“, which “will be the first of its kind in the world”. Moreover, “the event will be supported by the FELGBT and will be a space to share different metodologies to tackle LGBTIphobia”.
